Most DAM vendors do not publish a price. A team that wants a budget figure has to book a sales call first, and by then it has little to compare the quote against. The few published prices are scattered across vendor pages, marketplace listings and review sites, in different currencies and billing periods.
This article gathers the public price data for 15 DAM products in one place. It tells you what comparable teams pay, which vendors publish a price, how the pricing models differ and what to expect beyond the license. Use it to set a budget range before you contact a vendor, and to check a quote once you have one. Freedam is one of the products compared, and it publishes every plan price, so you can budget it without a sales call.
As of 2026-10-19, a small team can start with a DAM (digital asset management) product for USD 25 a month, while mid-market contracts typically cost tens of thousands of dollars a year and enterprise contracts more. Six well-known vendors publish no price at all.
Which DAM vendors publish their prices?#
Most enterprise vendors do not: Bynder, Canto, Aprimo, Brandfolder, MediaValet and Acquia DAM are quote-only. Vendors that do publish are mostly small-team and mid-priced products: Cloudinary, Pics.io, Dash, Air, Filecamp, pixx.io, ResourceSpace, Kontainer and Freedam.
Quote-only pricing means the vendor sets a price per customer from users, storage, modules and contract length, and shows no list price.
How much does a DAM cost?#
Four tiers recur across sources:
| Tier | Typical price | Examples on this page |
|---|---|---|
| Free or entry plans | USD 0 to about USD 100 a month | Cloudinary free, Air free, Freedam free, ResourceSpace |
| Small-team plans | USD 25 to about USD 1,000 a month | Pics.io, Dash, Air, Filecamp, pixx.io, Kontainer, Freedam (Team and Business) |
| Mid-market contracts | USD 12,000 to 150,000 a year | Bynder, Canto, Brandfolder, Frontify |
| Enterprise contracts | USD 40,000 to 500,000 or more a year | MediaValet, Acquia DAM, Aprimo |
Published market guides give similar bands: small-team plans of USD 29 to 530 a month, enterprise contracts above USD 40,000 to 200,000 a year, and an overall range from a few thousand dollars a year to well into six figures.

| Frontify | USD | 37,517 (median, 38 purchases) | 60,359 (top of range) | Range USD 13,776 to 60,359; modular, seat-based, quoted annually; Vendr, February 2026 | Vendr |
| Bynder | USD | 42,500 (median, 82 purchases) | 105,603 (top of range) | Range USD 9,799 to 105,603; AWS listing USD 66,000 for 12 months and 2 TB; Vendr, February 2026 | Vendr |
| MediaValet | USD | 140,000 (30 TB) | 190,000 (50 TB) | Microsoft Marketplace listings; USD 165,000 for 40 TB | Microsoft Marketplace |
The Vendr medians are contract data from buyers and are the most reliable figures on the page. Marketplace listings are what a vendor posts for one configuration. Rows labeled estimate come from aggregators and can lag.
Is Canto's price public?#
Partly. Canto has no public list price, but an AWS (Amazon Web Services) Marketplace listing shows USD 25,000 for 12 months, 2 TB of storage and 5 power users, with onboarding fees on top. There is no free plan, and a 7-day trial is available on request. This is a listing for one configuration, not a price list.
Is Bynder's price public?#
No list price. The only published number is an AWS Marketplace listing of USD 66,000 for 12 months and 2 TB. Vendr's contract data (82 purchases, February 2026) puts the median at USD 42,500 a year, so buyers appear to pay less than the listing.
What pricing models do DAM vendors use?#
| Model | How it works | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Quote only, modular | Price built from users, storage, modules and contract length | Bynder, Canto, Brandfolder, Aprimo, MediaValet, Acquia DAM |
| Seat-based, modular | Price by seats and product tiers, quoted annually | Frontify |
| Flat tiers, unlimited users | A fixed price per plan whatever the headcount | Dash, MediaValet; Brandfolder for guest users |
| Per admin or power user, viewers free | Pay for the people who manage assets | pixx.io, Canto, Brandfolder, Freedam |
| Credits | Storage and AI drawn from one credit pool (Air: about 6 credits per GB with enrichment); transformations, AI analysis or traffic metered | Air, Cloudinary, pixx.io |
| Open source with paid hosting or support | No license fee; pay for hosting, support or staff time | ResourceSpace and others |
What does a DAM cost on top of the license?#
| Cost | Figure |
|---|---|
| Onboarding (Brandfolder) | Estimated USD 2,000 to 10,000 |
| Services (Bynder) | Estimated USD 10,000 to 50,000 |
| Onboarding (Canto) | Fees apply; amount not published |
| Renewal increase (Bynder) | 20 to 23% a year, as reported |
| Auto-renewal and hidden costs (MediaValet) | At least seven hidden costs listed; contracts auto-renew |
| Implementation, training, storage overage, integrations | Can add significantly to the first-year budget |
Quarter ends (March, June, September, December) are a common time to negotiate. Ask every vendor to put onboarding, storage overage and AI costs in writing. On Freedam, the storage quota covers originals and all generated previews, and AI is included on every plan, so none of these is a separate line item.
How should you budget for a DAM?#
Few products publish a price between USD 1,000 a month and about USD 25,000 a year, so your budget depends on which side of that gap you are on:
- Small team, up to about USD 1,000 a month. Start with products that publish a price (Freedam, Dash, Pics.io, Filecamp, pixx.io, Air). Trial two or three with your own files and compare admin limits, storage and AI costs, not only the headline price. Freedam's free plan stays free, and every new workspace gets a 30-day trial of the Team plan without a credit card.
- Growing team that has outgrown a small-team plan. Budget USD 20,000 to 45,000 a year for a mid-market contract: the entry prices for Aprimo, Canto, Frontify and Bynder fall in that range. Ask for a multi-year price cap and for onboarding fees to be listed separately.
- Enterprise needs. Budget USD 40,000 or more a year plus services, and negotiate at a quarter end (March, June, September, December).
Before you ask any vendor for a quote, set a ceiling from these ranges and describe your own scenario: how many admins, how many viewers, how much storage and how much AI use. Then compare the quotes per year, as in the table above.
When a larger vendor is the better fit: if you need enterprise-scale governance, a large partner ecosystem or a vendor on your procurement shortlist, a quote-only contract at USD 40,000 or more can be the right spend, and a low-cost plan will not cover it.

To price your own scenario, every Freedam price is public on the pricing page, and the free plan is a fine place to start.
Frequently asked questions#
There is no single average. Contract data gives a median of USD 42,500 a year for Bynder and USD 37,517 for Frontify. Small-team plans cost USD 25 to about USD 1,000 a month. Enterprise contracts start around USD 40,000, and the largest public listing is USD 190,000 a year.
Bynder, Canto, Brandfolder, Aprimo, MediaValet and Acquia DAM are named as quote-only in Cloudinary's 2026 pricing guide. Bynder, Canto and MediaValet have marketplace listings that show a price for one configuration.
Renewal increases of 20 to 23% a year have been reported for Bynder. We found no comparable figure for other vendors, so we do not generalize it.
Yes. Cloudinary, Air and Freedam have free plans with limits, and ResourceSpace is open source with a free cloud tier up to 10 GB. Check what the limits remove: a free plan that gates search or sharing is a trial.
Not on license cost alone. Open source products have no license fee but need hosting and staff time. Freedam's self-hosted licence is EUR 9,000 a year per deployment, plus your own infrastructure. See the self-hosted DAM guide.
