Analyst firms such as Gartner, Forrester and IDC (International Data Corporation) publish research on digital asset management. That research is useful but incomplete. Each report profiles about 15 vendors, mostly enterprise ones, while we count 462 products. It says little about smaller, regional and specialist products, and little about practical questions such as price, owner or hosting country.
This series covers that gap. It aims to give the fullest vendor landscape we can support with sources, and every figure carries a source and a date. This hub gives the overall picture. The four other parts each take one question in depth.
As of 2026-10-19 we count 462 products that work as digital asset management (DAM) software. The table gives the main counts.
| Measure | |
|---|---|
| All DAM-type products | 462 |
| General DAM | 207 |
| Video MAM (media asset management) | 60 |
| Brand portals | 51 |
| Made by US companies | 151 |
| Made by German companies | 52 |
| Made by UK companies | 38 |
| Made by French companies | 31 |
| Covered by Gartner's Magic Quadrant | 13 to 15 |
| Profiled by IDC's 2024 MarketScape | 15 |
This page is the hub of a five-part series. The other four pages go deeper:
- What a DAM costs in 2026: public price data for 15 products. See what comparable teams pay, which vendors publish a price, and what to expect at renewal.
- Who owns which DAM: acquisitions, rebrands and shutdowns. Check who is behind a vendor before you sign, find a product under its old name, and see which ones no longer exist.
- Shortlisting a DAM beyond the big names. Build a shortlist that fits your team size and budget, and see when a large vendor is still the right pick.
- European DAM vendors and where your data is hosted. Find vendors in your country, see which ones document where your data is hosted, and get the questions to ask about data residency.

How many DAM products are there?#
462, as of 2026-10-19. The count comes from a search of 2,270 web pages and a check of each candidate's own site (see the method below). It is a count of products, not companies: one company can sell several, and some products have been renamed.
For comparison, Gartner's reviews category for digital asset management lists 81 products (Gartner Peer Insights). The gap between 15 in the analyst reports and 462 in the market is the main finding: analysts cover the enterprise tier.
What kinds of DAM are there?#
Vendors use "DAM" for several different products. We sort them into nine categories.
| Category | What it is | |
|---|---|---|
| DAM | General-purpose library for marketing and creative files | 207 |
| MAM (media asset management) / video | Media asset management built around video workflow, review and archives | 60 |
| Brand portal / brand management | Brand guidelines plus approved downloads, often used by corporate communication departments to share their brand guide, and by agencies and franchises | 51 |
| DAM + PIM (product information management) | Asset library tied to product information for catalogs and commerce | 50 |
| Photo / personal manager | Desktop or prosumer photo catalogs | 26 |
| Open source DAM | Self-hostable, source available | 23 |
| Enterprise suite with a DAM module | DAM sold inside a content or experience platform | 19 |
| Marketing / work management with DAM | Campaign, workflow or resource tools that include a library | 18 |
| Image / video CDN (content delivery network) with DAM | Delivery and transformation platform with a library interface | 8 |
Source: Freedam vendor dataset, checked 2026-10-19. Some products fit two categories; each is counted once.
Which category do you need? Buyers most often mix up a DAM with four neighbouring tools. How they differ:
- DAM vs cloud storage. Storage keeps and shares files. A DAM adds structured metadata, controlled search, permissions, approval and usage rights.
- DAM vs brand portal. A brand portal adds guidelines and consistency controls to an approved-asset library. Vendors on both sides describe the line differently, and both are selling into the segment they define (Frontify and Wedia, vendor-published).
- DAM vs PIM. A PIM (product information management system) holds product data and a DAM holds the images and documents. The two have to be linked so the right image shows with the right product record.
- DAM vs MAM. Some sources treat them as the same. Others use MAM for video-heavy workflow and archives.
Which DAM segments do vendors serve?#
Segment is the buyer size a vendor targets. Some vendors serve two.

Counted across the European Union (EU), the UK, Switzerland and Norway, more than 200 of the 462 products come from Europe. An English-language top-10 list that is mostly US vendors misses most of them. The European vendors page lists them by country.
Of the 440 products with a known headquarters, 217 (49%) are European, 151 (34%) are American and 72 (16%) are from the rest of the world.

Which DAM vendors do the analysts cover?#
Analyst coverage is narrow, and the main reports are cited mostly by the vendors they name. All "Leader" claims below are vendor-published.
- Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Asset Management Platforms (4 November 2025). Adobe, Aprimo and Bynder each publish that they are Leaders. The full vendor list for 2025 was not retrieved.
- Forrester Wave: Digital Asset Management Systems (Q1 2026). Adobe, Bynder and OpenText each publish that they were named Leaders.
- IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Intelligent Digital Asset Management (July 2024). It profiles 15 vendors: Acquia, Adobe, Amplience, Aprimo, Bynder, Canto, Cloudinary, Hyland, MediaValet, OpenText, Optimizely, Orange Logic, Sitecore, Smartsheet and Tenovos.
- Frost Radar for DAM platforms (June 2025). It names five forces on the market: composable API-first architecture, generative AI, provenance pressure (EU AI Act, and C2PA, the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity standard), omnichannel velocity and workflow orientation.
Products that appear often in buyer comparisons but in none of these reports include Dash, Pics.io, Filecamp, Kontainer, pixx.io, 4ALLPORTAL, Air, ResourceSpace, Daminion, Asset Bank, Papirfly and iconik.
Which DAM products are mentioned most online?#
Ranked by the number of the 2,270 pages we read that mention each product:
| Rank | Product | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bynder | 575 |
| 2 | Canto | 394 |
| 3 | Brandfolder | 280 |
| 4 | Acquia DAM | 273 |
| 5 | MediaValet | 169 |
| 6 | Aprimo | 166 |
| 7 | Filecamp | 142 |
| 8 | Kontainer | 129 |
| 9 | Cortex (Orange Logic) | 121 |
| 10 | PhotoShelter | 118 |
This measures visibility in comparison articles, which favor vendors that publish a lot of them. It does not measure market share.
How big is the DAM market?#
Most estimates for 2025 fall between USD 6.2 and 7.3 billion, and most forecasts for 2030 or 2031 between USD 12 and 17 billion.
| Source (date) | 2025 or base year | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| The Business Research Company (Sep 2026) | USD 7.32 bn | 17.14 bn (2030) | 18.5% |
| Mordor Intelligence (Feb 2026) | USD 6.59 bn | 14.41 bn (2031) | 13.94% |
| Knowledge Sourcing Intelligence | USD 6.714 bn | 13.516 bn (2030) | 15.02% |
| MarketsandMarkets (Mar 2026) | USD 6.23 bn | 14.51 bn (2031) | 15.4% |
A further report puts 2024 at USD 14.03 billion; its scope is about twice the others, so we left it out of the range.
What does the market look like to a buyer?#
Four patterns from the data:
- Consolidation. 89 of the 462 products have status "acquired", 17 "rebranded" and 20 "discontinued". See the ownership tracker.
- A price gap. Observed public prices jump from under USD 1,000 a month for flat-price products to contracts from about USD 10,000 a year for the mid-market, with little in between. See the pricing article.
- Europe is about half. 217 of the 440 products with a known headquarters are European. See the European vendors article.
- Analysts see a small part. 15 of the 462 products are profiled in the IDC MarketScape, and Gartner's Magic Quadrant covers 13 to 15. See the shortlisting article.
What the vendor landscape tells a buyer#
A growing market with uneven estimates. Analysts put the DAM market at USD 6.2 to 7.3 billion in 2025 and expect USD 12 to 17 billion by 2030 or 2031, a growth rate between 13.9% and 18.5% a year depending on the firm. In a G2 survey of ten vendors in February 2026, eight named the rapid growth of assets and AI-generated content as the main pressure on DAM. MarketsandMarkets expects small and medium enterprises (15.0% a year) and AI-powered DAM (17.5%) to grow fastest. Europe accounted for 22.4% of global revenue in 2023 according to Grand View Research, and that firm expects Asia Pacific to lead in revenue by 2030.
Two tiers and a long tail. About 15 enterprise vendors appear in the analyst reports. The other 447 products are the part of the market a buyer meets in search results, and they are not small in number: 123 target mid-market teams and 91 target small businesses. Vendors are spread across regions, with 151 in the United States and 217 in Europe. The market is also consolidating. 89 products have been acquired, 16 of them in 2024, by private-equity firms (Bynder, MediaValet, Wedia) and by strategic buyers (Acquia with Widen, Hyland with Nuxeo, Smartsheet with Brandfolder). A product's owner is now part of the evaluation.
Pricing is the least transparent part. At the top of the market prices are quoted per customer, and observed contract medians sit between USD 37,500 and 42,500 a year for the mid-market products with public data. Below that, flat-price products start at USD 25 a month, and there are few options between USD 1,000 a month and USD 25,000 a year. Renewal increases of 20 to 23% a year have been reported for one major vendor. At the same time Gartner observes that generative AI is blurring the lines between standalone DAM and content marketing platforms, PIM and digital experience platforms, so the product you compare may not match the category you searched for.
What is changing next. Buyers say they want AI mainly for finding assets, not for generating them: 82% of respondents in one 2026 vendor survey wanted it for discovery and 30% for generation. AI assistants are starting to connect to libraries through MCP servers, and provenance data is moving from standard to product feature, with EU AI Act transparency rules in force since 2 August 2026 while fewer than 1% of images online carry C2PA data. Data residency is a purchase criterion in Europe, yet few vendors document where storage and AI processing happen. For a buyer, this points to a practical order: pick the segment first, check who owns the vendor and what the renewal terms are, then ask where data and AI run. Analyst rankings help for the enterprise tier and say little about the rest.
How we built the dataset#
- Search. 132 web searches (English, German, French and other languages) covering best-of lists by industry, "alternatives to" queries for about 50 vendors, analyst reports and review sites.
- Extraction. 2,270 pages read; vendor names were extracted from each one. That gave 1,058 distinct names, merged into 756 products, of which 157 were removed as not DAM-type.
- Verification. For each of 599 candidates we fetched the official site and ran one news search (acquisition, shutdown, rebrand) and one "about" search (headquarters). Category, headquarters, status and parent were assigned from that evidence. 462 were confirmed as DAM-type; 137 were flagged as not DAM (generic storage, CDN-only, photo editors, PIM-only) and kept in the file with a flag.
- Facts. 47 further searches on market size, prices, analyst reports and trends produced 786 extracted facts, each with a source URL.
Limits:
- Category and headquarters for the vendors ranked 151 to 599 rest on one search each.
- 50 of the 462 headquarters have low confidence.
- 43 vendors had a website that did not respond during the check. Several are retired brands, but a failed fetch is not proof.
- Some prices come from third-party aggregators that compile contract data, and those can lag.
- Fields were assigned from limited evidence, so individual rows can be wrong. If your product is listed wrongly, tell us.

Frequently asked questions#
462 products were confirmed as DAM-type on 2026-10-19, from several hundred companies. Gartner's reviews category lists 81, and the 2024 IDC MarketScape profiles 15.
The United States has 151 products, Germany 52, the United Kingdom 38 and France 31. More than 200 products come from European countries.
A DAM manages general marketing and creative files. A MAM is built around video workflow and archives. A brand portal combines brand guidelines with approved downloads for agencies and franchises. Many products cover two of these.
Yes. The dataset lists 23, including ResourceSpace, Phraseanet (Phrasea), Piwigo, AtroDAM and TACTIC. They need someone to run the server, and most sell paid hosting or support.
Analyst reports set inclusion criteria; for the Gartner Magic Quadrant a vendor has to cover ingestion, organization and provision of assets, and the reports profile the enterprise tier. Of the 462 products, 167 target enterprise buyers and 123 mid-market, but only about 15 appear in any one report.
